The signs and symptoms of pneumonia range from mild to severe, depending on factors such as the type of germ causing the infection, age, and overall health. Mild signs and symptoms often resemble those of a cold or flu, but last longer.

Symptoms of pneumonia can include:

1. Chest pain when breathing or coughing
2. Confusion or changes in mental awareness (in adults aged 65 and over)
3. Cough, which can produce phlegm
4. Fatigue
5. Fever above 38,5 ° C, sweating and chills
6. Tremor
7. In some cases, body temperature below normal (especially in adults over the age of 65 and in people with weak immune systems)
8. Nausea and vomiting
9. Diarrhea
10. Shortness of breath
11. Cyanosis, or bluish discoloration of the skin
12. Asthenia (a general debilitation)
13. Lack of appetite
14. Phlegm that is brown or streaked with blood
15. Pulse and breathing rate twice normal
