Nine plastic-eating machines will also be installed in Genoa by the end of February, one in each municipality. Plastic is recycled in exchange for a bonus.

After Rome, plastic-eating machines will also arrive in Genoa in February, but with an extra incentive: those who give plastic bottles will receive a real bonus in exchange, as happens in many countries of North-Western Europe.
Thanks to the Climate Decree that became law last month, which provides that municipalities and large-scale retailers can receive a contribution to equip themselves with bottle compactors, the so-called "plastic-eating machines" may no longer be just an exception, but be regularly disseminated so that the plastics management supply chain is as correct as possible.
As for the city of Genoa, the motion requesting installation for end of February of nine plastic-eating machines, one in each Town Hall, has just been approved. The machines will not give away just bus or subway tickets in exchange for bottles, but they will give access to a range of incentives ranging from public services to theater entrances. All through a card system or a dedicated app.
In addition to Amiu, the investee that deals with waste management, the private company that markets the machinery, consumer associations, civs (Integrated Centers of Via), transport companies and theaters are involved in the process. For now, the proposed incentives have not been defined, but theaters and transport companies seem to be confirmed, while the agreements could expand further.
“Within two or three weeks we will define the points where to place them - explains Matteo Campora, Councilor for the Environment. There will be a container and a compactor. However, we still have to define some practical aspects, such as the timing for the withdrawal of plastic. The first weeks will be important because they will explain to us how much this service is appreciated so that we can then calibrate it according to the needs of each municipality ".
