Plastic bottles in exchange for Adidas shoes: the initiative that is good for the planet, but also for the wallet

Have you ever thought that it would be possible to buy Adidas shoes in exchange for plastic bottles? This is not a utopian gimmick, but a brilliant initiative that has been launched in recent days both in Paris and in New York.

Sometimes recycling is good not only for the environment, but also for your pockets. Have you ever thought that it would be possible to buy a pair of Adidas shoes in exchange for plastic bottles? This is not a utopian gimmick, but a brilliant initiative that has been launched in recent days both in Paris and in New York.

Yes, just insert some bottles to receive vouchers for the purchase of the iconic ones Stan Smith, sustainable Adidas shoes made with recycled materials, including bottles collected from the beaches. The idea was born from the collaboration between the well-known sports brand and the creative agency Mojo Supermarket, who was involved in the design of vending machines.

“We like working with our friends at Adidas because they try to use their influence to solve cultural problems, not just related to work,” explains Camilo De Galofre, director of the art and design sector of Mojo Supermarket.

At the moment the vending machines are located in Adidas stores in New York and Paris, but it is not excluded that the initiative could be extended to other parts of the world. Their operation is very simple and intuitive: by inserting the plastic bottles into the machine, a receipt is issued with a discount to be applied on the purchase of a pair of Stan Smiths, to be presented at the cash desk. A simple and ingenious idea that will serve to spread the culture of recycling and the circular economy.

In recent years, Adidas has been making a concrete commitment to fight plastic pollution and promote a more sustainable and planet-friendly fashion. After the launch, earlier this year, of the Primegreen line of shoes with uppers made of 50% recycled materials, the company recently launched the ultra boost, customizable running shoes, made with plastic that would have ended up in the oceans and inspired by the famous colored Lego bricks. But it doesn't stop there: last month Adidas presented the shoes Stan Smith Mylo, which take their name from Mylo, a soft, elastic and versatile fabric based on mycelium, or the vegetative system of mushrooms. Another big step that will help save tons of polluting plastic.
