According to experts, home air pollution is an environmental threat to human health that should not be underestimated. In the opinion of the researchers, surrounding ourselves with plants that purify the air can become a precious help.
Researchers have found that some plants are better than others at removing the main category of household pollutants - volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In short, with the right plants, the air of the house becomes cleaner and safer.
According to experts, buildings, both old and new, can present high levels of VOC, sometimes so high that you can smell them. Among these compounds we find theacetone, benzene and formaldehyde, which are harmful to health when we breathe them. In the long run, these substances can cause asthma and allergies.
According to the study authors, one of the best ways to remove VOC from our homes is to choose the right plants. The researchers measured the different VOC concentrations in some rooms after inserting different types of plants.

Researchers tested 5 of the most common houseplants and 8 of the most common VOCs. They realized that some plants absorb certain substances better than others.
