Photovoltaics: colored solar panels are arriving from Canada

In fact, since last month, QSolar Limited - a manufacturer of solar panels based in Calgary, Alberta (Canada) - has put on sale two lines of colored modules, the Kristal and the Kristal Rainbow. From now on it will therefore be possible to see around the world green colored roofs, red roofs or kitch canopies with purple panels on top (yes, they also made them purple!) the intention is to satisfy a slice of the market that is still intact - with the exception of a few timid attempts at black solar panels.

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

Who said that i solar panels do they have to be blue? What if you have a house surrounded by greenery and you want them green? Why not red, in tune with the scorched earth? Or maybe yellow… it sounds like a child's question, but come to think of it, who would know why solar panels are blue? The secret is partly in the return partly in the materials used: blue is the layer of silicon nitride that forms on the surface of each solar cell after a specific treatment. The latter, in turn, guarantees maximum absorption of the sunlight - after black, which however entails other technical problems. In short, blue represents the ideal compromise between performance, costs and aesthetics. At least until today.

“The availability of colored panels - said the President & CEO di QSolar Andreas Tapakoudes - creates an even greater market potential as Kristal panels allow for architects e designers a great variety of building applications ".

In fact, there are many integration possibilities offered by a product that until the day before was always sold in only one color. It remains to be seen, however, if the QSolar panels maintain the same performance achieved by the products on the market in the long run, namely the 15% approximately. Otherwise, the patent could turn out to be a hole in the water. Blue!
