Published the American "Clean Fifteen" ranking - produced by the EWG - which reveals which fruits, vegetables and vegetables are less poisoned by pesticides in 2022Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous
The fruit and vegetables that end up on our tables are often contaminated with pesticides, in some cases by substances classified as potentially carcinogenic or endocrine disruptors. To eat products such as strawberries e apples with a light heart we should opt for organic farming. Also this year the network of American activists Environmental Working Group (EWG) released the ranking “Dirty Dozen” with vegetables and fruit most poisoned by pesticides sold on the US market.
In the first places we find strawberries, spinach, curly and black kale. But which foods are less contaminated with chemicals and therefore safer for the year 2022? On the podium of the virtuous ranking “Clean Fifteen” made by the EWG - based on data provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration - rank avocado, sweet corn and pineapple. These products are confirmed again this year as the "cleanest". Let's find out what the others are.
Clean Fifteen: the ranking of 2022
Here is the complete ranking with the least contaminated fruit and vegetables for this year:
- Sweet corn
- Sweet peas (frozen)
- Green melon
- Sweet potatoes
About 70% of the fruit and vegetable samples analyzed did not have any noteworthy pesticide residues. Avocado and sweet corn turned out to be the "cleanest" products: in fact, pesticides were detected in less than 2% of the samples. In general, less than 5% of the foods analyzed had traces of two or more pesticides.
As for the products that finished in the top six positions (i.e. avocado, sweet corn, pineapple, onions, papaya and peas) tested positive for just three or three or fewer pesticide positive tests per single sample.
