THEaromatherapy it is a very ancient practice, which our ancestors used already more than 6000 years ago, using plants, flowers, spices and their aromas. Later the experts were able to derive theirs from plants, flowers, spices and fruits perfumed and beneficial essences, in the form of essential oils. For each of them there are different forms of use and application, depending on the needs. But sometimes they are the simplest aromas to immediately elevate our mood, like the scent of freshly baked bread or coffee that is slowly poured into a cup. Coffee aroma

THEcoffee aroma when we wake up it helps to give us a new sense of energy in a few moments. How come? According to one study conducted in South Korea, the smell of coffee is a real one natural anti-stress, with particular reference to the aroma of roasted coffee beans. However, this aroma would be very appreciated even by those who do not drink coffee regularly. Over time it has turned into a real call for awakening and to signal the beginning of a new day.

Aroma of freshly baked bread

Who is in the habit of making bread at home he knows it well. The aroma of freshly baked bread immediately gives a sense of peace and tranquility. Perhaps because it brings us back in a few moments to remembering childhood, or perhaps because it is simply a delicate and very reassuring aroma, which stimulates the appetite and reminds us that breakfast or lunch time is approaching.

Fragrant flowers

The scent of fiori is the basis of aromatherapy. Some of their corollas spread a very sweet and relaxing aroma. Let's think, for example, of the anti-stress effect of the perfume pink and flowers of lavender essence . Often it is enough to smell a fragrant flower in the garden or during a walk in a park to immediately feel better. Among the most fragrant flowers we find the pelargonium geranium, the jasmine, the flowers of chamomile, lilacs, tuberose flowers and honeysuckle. Finally, there is no lack of cosmea (or cosmos), whose scent recalls that of vanilla and chocolate.

4) Aromatic herbs and spices

Herbs and aromatic plants contain those scents that are used by aromatherapy to give a new state of physical and psychological well-being to those who need a new burst of energy. Among the herbs and aromatic plants to smell to feel better we find the mint, rosemary, basil, oregano, thyme and the majority. Many of the scents related to aromatic herbs are energizing and anti-stress at the same time. This is why it is very important to always have aromatic herbs at hand.

Grow them in the vegetable garden, in the garden or simply in pots, on your balcony. Use them in the kitchen as a condiment, rub them on your skin, smell their scent and don't forget to use them as ingredients for the preparation of beneficial herbal teas. Even the scent of some spices, it helps us to regain well-being, calm and good humor. Let's think, for example, of the aroma of vanilla, of cinnamon, cloves and cardamom seeds. Let's not forget to use aromatic herbs and spices in potpourri to perfume the rooms of our home.

Essential oils

THEaromatherapy recommends the use of essential oils not only to alleviate numerous ailments from a physical point of view, from headaches to muscle aches, but proposes to use them to regain one's general well-being, also from the point of view of the mind, of the emotions and feelings. Each essential oil has a specific effect. You can use essential oils in a diffuser of natural essences for rooms, or simply pour a drop on a handkerchief, to be smelled from time to time. Add a drop of your favorite essential oil to a teaspoon of vegetable oil base (for example, rice oil or sweet almond oil) and use it all for relaxing or energizing massages. Here are a few useful examples.

- Lavender: calming, useful in case of insomnia.
- Jasmine: beneficial for those suffering from depression.
- Bergamot: relieves anxiety.
- Neroli: reduces stress, relieves anxiety and depression.
- Sweet orange: calming, free your mind.
- Mint: regenerates and stimulates the mind.
- Rosemary: reduces the sense of fatigue.
- Vetiver: relieves stress and depression.
- Ylang ylang: relaxing but also aphrodisiac.

Always choose essential oils pure, possibly coming from organic farming and certified as completely natural products. Remember that some essential oils are not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and that in these products, even if natural, they should not be used on children under the age of three (in general, for children, the essential oil considered safer is that of lavender, but you can ask your herbalist for more information).
