You may not know that if you have a food processor or a powerful blender, all you need to make peanut butter is peanuts for roasting and a few pinches of salt to flavor the recipe.

Here are the ingredients and the procedure for making homemade peanut butter. It really is that simple.

Ingredients

250 grams of shelled peanuts
2 teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil
1 pinch of salt
1 teaspoon of honey or agave syrup (optional)
1 teaspoon of water (if needed)

Preparation

To make peanut butter at home, keep in mind that 250 grams of shelled peanuts correspond to approximately 300-350 gr of peanuts in shell. Weigh the peanuts as you peel them to reach the desired quantity. You can also prepare this recipe starting from a smaller quantity of peanuts, as needed, for example 100-150 gr.

We advise you to buy peanuts in shell because usually the shelled and roasted peanuts that we find for sale contain a lot of salt and added oils (read the labels).

After shelling the peanuts, toast them in the oven at 170 ° or in a pan for about 5-10 minutes until you smell the characteristic aroma of roasting (be careful not to burn the peanuts!). Then let them cool and pour them into the container of the blender or food processor.

Start to blend the peanuts until they are powdered. Then continue to blend and you will notice that a creamier mixture will gradually begin to form: as you blend, the peanuts release their natural oils. You will need to have some patience. Times vary depending on the power of the blender. If the mixture tends to accumulate towards the edges, bring it back towards the center with a teaspoon and then start blending again.



Add 2 teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil. Only if necessary, add 1 teaspoon of water to achieve the desired consistency. To mimic the flavor of packaged peanut butter, you could also add 1 teaspoon of honey or agave syrup.

When you have obtained a peanut butter of the desired creaminess, taste it and evaluate the amount of salt to add (if you want a stronger taste).

With the indicated doses you will get a jar of peanut butter da about 250 gr. Homemade peanut butter it can be kept in the refrigerator for 1 week. It can even last a few days longer (as long as you don't finish it first!).

An advice: if you have a food processor or a powerful blender, there is no need to add water or oil to make homemade peanut butter. In fact, thanks to the power of a good blender or robot, the peanuts will turn into cream very easily compared to using a common food processor and all you have to do is add a pinch of salt to the preparation, if you want, to adjust the taste of the your homemade peanut butter.
