The bottom of the onion should be left to dry in the open air for four or five days. At this point it can be transferred directly to the vegetable garden, or to a pot filled with soil, simply by placing it on the surface with the bottom facing the earth and covering it with a layer of soil of one or two centimeters.
When the first leaves have formed, the bottom of the onion will be removed from the ground, the different seedlings that have started to develop will have to be separated from each other. In fact, it is probable that more than one seedling develops from a single onion base. From sprouted onions

In spring, the thinning of the onion seedlings may take place and in late spring the harvest of real onions. From whole onions
Starting with whole onions already dried and small in size is possible get new seedlings onion.
