On New Year's Eve we don't shoot! Barrels scare animals and injure people, more fines are needed

Animals suffer the loudness of the infamous barrels in an extremely more violent way than humans: let's not shoot!

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

There are ordinances in several cities but, as usual, the gap lies in the lack of controls and, above all, of sanctions. It is no longer enough to appeal to a civic sense, we need a concrete intervention on the territories by the institutions

The last day of the year is approaching and, at the same time, the fear that even this time for our four-legged friends, the New Year's Eve is a night of pure terror. The reason is now established: animals suffer the sound intensity of the infamous barrels in an extremely more violent way than humans. In short, not firing barrels to celebrate would be a form of respect for them too.

The loud roar triggers a natural frightening reaction in animals and induces them to instinctive and uncontrolled reactions, such as throwing themselves into the void, struggling to tear off a possible chain, climb over fences and flee into the street, endangering their safety and that of other.

From north to south there are provisions in some city administrations that dictate the absolute ban on using firecrackers, barrels and pyrotechnic devices on the occasion of the celebrations of New Year's Eve. Flares, fountains, sparkling wands, spinning tops and luminous pinwheels, considered non-dangerous devices, are excluded from the ban. But to what extent is this prohibition respected?

Violations should be punished pursuant to art. 7 bis of Legislative Decree 267/2000 with a fine ranging from 25 to 500 euros, but every year we always ask ourselves the same question: how much are the prohibitions respected and how many are the penalties?

It is no coincidence, for example, that the LAV office in Bolzano has sent a request in recent days to various South Tyrolean municipalities not to grant exemptions for fireworks and, where one is not already in force, to issue a ordinance prohibiting the use of barrels and firecrackers.

Appealing to common sense and to everyone's sense of responsibility does not seem to be enough, concrete action is needed. Also and above all in light of the fact that the barrels are also dangerous for the children: in their hands firecrackers and miccette do not really have to get there. That we are 3 or 10 years old, it is not discussed at all. At the most, orient yourself on the New Year's stars, which should be much more harmless.

As for the loud hustle and bustle, babies and toddlers certainly don't die of heartbreak like our pets, but they go anyway. took theirs into consideration fears.

If you really haven't been able to get them to sleep before midnight, try to stay indoors and muffle the noises as much as possible. If inconsolable crying escapes, a couple of arms and lots of cuddles should be enough. For older children, instill in them the culture of "no bang", it doesn't take much if you don't already have this habit in your family.

In short, say no to the barrels because:

    • they kill many animals, domestic and wild
    • they make cats and dogs flee in fear
    • they hurt children and adults
    • scare children (especially those with autism)
    • pollute the environment

There are alternatives to celebrate without any harm, just consider them one by one.
