Here's what to do to protect the Oleander in winter
If we live in an area where winter is severe, now is the right time to take some protective measures for our potted Oleanders. Let's see some suggestions:
- let's move them to a sheltered porch. If we have the opportunity, we place our plants under a sheltered porch or porch. The place must still be dry and sunny, but temperatures there will be more controlled;
- we raise the pot from the ground to isolate it from the cold that comes from below: we can use wooden slats;
- we protect the plant with TNT. We buy the bags of non-woven fabric, it is an excellent cover that protects the plant from the intense cold, humidity and at the same time allows the light to filter;
- we transfer the vase to the stairwell. We can do this if we live in a condominium, so let's consider the hypothesis of moving the pot to this place, usually unheated and at the same time bright, dry and sheltered.

Let's not make the mistake of bringing the plant indoors. This species needs to go into dormancy and the temperatures in our home would not allow it. We would end up causing stress on her, thus exposing her to diseases and parasitic attacks.
The cures in winter
- However, the change of environment represents a small moment of difficulty for the plant, so we can help it by sprinkling phyto stimulants on the leaves. These are supplements made up of natural products, such as some types of seaweed, which help the plant to overcome a moment of stress.
- Also remember to continue with the irrigations. Less abundant but still constant. Let's adjust according to the light and temperature of the place where we planted it.
- We continue to fertilize it, however, halving the doses of the product that we usually use.
When to bring it back outside
The more the plant has rested in a cold place, the sooner it can return outside. It is always better to wait until there are no longer night frosts, but if the plant has survived this period well, it will be able to withstand even low temperatures as long as they are not prolonged.
