Nuts and peanuts: Half a handful a day to reduce the risk of getting sick

Walnuts, peanuts and all nuts in general (except in cases of allergy) is a real panacea for health. Nut intake had long been associated with a lower mortality risk, but few studies to date have investigated the relationship between nut consumption and reduced cardiovascular risk.

Walnuts, almonds, peanuts and all nuts in general (except in cases of allergy) it is a real one good for health. Nut intake had long been associated with a lower mortality risk, but few studies to date have investigated the relationship between nut consumption and reduced risk of cardiovascular and other serious diseases.

Stop eating a small handful of dried fruit per day to live longer. The study in question was published in the scientific journal International Journal of Epidemiology. It is considered as a complete and significant study compared to the research conducted so far.

The new research was carried out within the Cohort Study, which has been running in the Netherlands since 1986 and involves 120 Dutch men and women. The study authors concluded that men and women eat at least 10-15 grams of walnuts or peanuts per day - about half a handful - have a noticeable reduction in the risk of death from some serious diseases compared to people who consume neither tree nuts nor peanuts. In the study, as in everyday life, peanuts are considered among the nuts, even if from a botanical point of view they are related to legumes.

The risk of mortality is reduced with regard to respiratory diseases, degenerative diseases, diabetes, il cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Peanuts protect health like walnuts, but industrial peanut butter (which often has additional ingredients like vegetable oils, salt, and fatty acids) doesn't have the same effect.

Previous studies conducted in the US and Asia had shown an association between consumption of nuts and peanuts and lower risk of cardiovascular disease, but the new study is considered surprising above all for the aspect linked to the reduction of the risk of cancer and diabetes, among the most worrying diseases of our time.

The credit would be all of the fats polyunsaturated, vitamins, antioxidants and bioactive compounds present in nuts, substances capable of reducing the risk of getting sick. And 15 grams of nuts a day provide less than 100 calories, therefore it is not a problem to include them as a snack during our days.
