Beer for osteoporosis

With the project "Beerbone”The University of Siena has studied effects of the silicon of beer from Val d'Orcia for the treatment of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Essential for the metabolism of connective tissue and bone, Silicon intake has been linked to bone density.

From the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna comes the study of the cardiorigenerative properties contained in the Tuscan Sangiovese grape berries for the prevention of heart failure.

The project, the "Cardio.MiR.San.To“, Encompasses several fields: from genetics to physiology, from biochemistry to molecular biology, to cardiovascular medicine. Its goal is to characterize and enhance the cardioprotective properties of grape juice derived from Sangiovese grape berries, a vine whose berries are rich in anti-apoptotic microRNAs, useful for preventing chronic heart failure in those who have already suffered a heart attack. Three Tuscan academic and research institutions work together on the project (Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Institute of Clinical Physiology of the CNR of Pisa and Tuscany Foundation "G.Monasterio") and a company of the Tuscany Region specialized in the cultivation, production and transformation of Tuscan grapes (Fattoria Viticcio SARL).

The project is called FATEPreSco and wants to characterize and enhance the cardioprotective properties of a new flour, derived from ancient genotypes of soft wheat rich in alpha-lipoic acid and bio-fortified with Fe and Zn, for the production of a Tuscan bread useful for preventing heart failure. post-heart attack cardiac.
