Nutella and its ingredients, the viral photo: what the labels do not say

What does Nutella contain? A viral photo would prove it: palm oil and sugar are the main ingredients in very high quantities.

What does the Nutella? The recipe for the most famous hazelnut cream in the world has always remained under an aura of "mystery". Of course the ingredients are mentioned (by law) on the labels, but now a photo that has immediately gone viral would be showing the quantities and are the ones that make you think a lot. Especially the proportion of Palm oil e XNUMX/XNUMX cup sugar compared to hazelnuts and cocoa which, theoretically, should be the main ingredients.

Palm oil, an ingredient recently targeted and eliminated from many food productions following its classification as potentially carcinogenic by the European Food Safety Authority. There Ferrero continues to refute this claim and says that what Nutella contains is safe and healthy palm oil. But perhaps the most shocking aspect of the photo for many is just how much sugar a jar of chocolate appears to hold.

Sugar appears to make up more than half of the ingredients present.

While the parent company hasn't confirmed if this photo (see below) is true, the label carries sugar as its first ingredient, which according to the food labeling instructions means it's the largest amount of all ingredients. inserted in the product.
According to the label, in short, a whole jar contains 400 grams of sugar, which means that the sugar in just three tablespoons - 45 grams - is more than what is in an entire can of Coke.

Nutella and its ingredients, the viral photo: what the labels do not say

From Ferrero they say: “We do not disclose the full proportions of the ingredients in Nutella because our recipe is unique and we want to safeguard it. The product label provides simple and clear nutritional information per 15g serving, or two covered teaspoons, as well as per 100g. The ingredients are also listed on the Nutella website ”.

And right here Ferrero he is keen to specify the quality of the raw materials he uses. It reads “The sugar we use in our products is mainly sucrose. This is found in fruits and vegetables and the main sources are beets and sugar cane. We source exclusively from producers who process non-genetically modified beets, all from Europe. Sugar cane, on the other hand, comes only from non-European countries. We only purchase non-genetically modified sugar ".

There are now many articles that attack Nutella, not only for the presence of palm oil but also because it contains substances such as soy lecithin, vanillin and milk powder. Here and here are two articles that invite you to say no to Nutella and to prohibit it especially for children.
