As the French President Macron has already stressed several times, the main objective is, after the shock of what has happened, to rebuild the cathedral, symbol of Paris and an example of Gothic architecture worldwide, as quickly as possible.
The building consists of a very complex layered structure and it could take many years to rebuild all the parts damaged by the fire. To help in the enterprise there will perhaps be something truly original and unexpected. This is Assassin's Creed, the famous Ubisoft video game that uses 3D models. These same tools could help rebuild the French World Heritage monument.
For the uninitiated, the video game consists of several adventures set in many places, including historical ones, including the protagonists climbing and fighting.
There is no lack of France and specifically Paris. In the title Assassin's Creed: Unity of 2014 the setting is historical and we are at the time of the French Revolution. Therefore, one could not be missing within this episode reconstruction of the Notre-Dame Cathedral made with a very accurate 3D model.
It seems that the designers who worked on the game even took two years before being able to create an image that faithfully reproduced the main features of the monument including the spiers, pinnacles and some statues. Today all this could be very useful for those who will have to deal with the reconstruction of the cathedral.
I 3D models made for the game they are indeed most precious and they could help to understand how the monument was made in some points that no longer exist today, shortening the time required for the recovery of projects and images relating to them.
Who would have thought that virtual reality and specifically a video game like this would prove so useful? However, we hope that all possible tricks will be used to make the Parisian cathedral that we all remember soon shine again.
