Let's see some good habits to save on the consumption of hot water, to waste less energy and less water

The consumption of hot water is an item that weighs heavily on the gas bill, especially in winter, when we make more use of this convenience than in the summer season. We have already seen how to use radiators in a conscious way to avoid wasting energy and heat. Now we also see some effective techniques for saving energy in hot water heating - for the benefit of our wallet, but also for the environment.

Small precautions to save every day

First of all, every time we open the tap, let's ask ourselves if it is really necessary to activate the boiler for those few minutes that we will use water - for example, if we wash our hands or teeth for a moment, or if we quickly rinse something: activation of the boiler requires a massive expenditure of energy and time, and this forces us to stand for a few minutes in front of the open tap waiting for the water to heat up - with unnecessary waste of water before energy.

That's why, every now and then, it would be better do without hot water and don't waste the resource. If, on the other hand, we are unable to give up hot water when we wash our hands (especially on very cold days like these), we can collect the water in a basin that we run while waiting for it to heat up, so that we can reuse it for others. uses (for example, for draining the bathroom).

Even the adoption of flow reducers can represent a valid help in reducing our water consumption (hot or cold): these are accessories that can be purchased for a few euros in hardware and that allow to reduce the jet of water. water coming from the taps. To us the difference may seem minimal, but in the long run the savings are truly remarkable!

To also promote energy saving, you can think of the installation of low consumption mixers that allow, in addition to a lower waste of water, also the achievement of not very high temperatures, so as not to waste too much energy: it is possible to install a temperature limiter that our taps can reach to further reduce energy consumption.

The time that elapses between the opening of the tap and the outflow of hot water derives from various factors - such as the distance between the tap and the air heating system, the level of efficiency of the system, the ambient temperature. To overcome the problem of time, we can invest in one water circulation pump - a small appliance placed in front of the tap that allows you to have hot water without waste as soon as we open the fountain: these are small appliances that we can install in the kitchen or bathroom, and which allow a strong saving of hot water.

Boiler or Chaldaia?

The traditional boiler has the dual objective of allowing the heating system to function and produce hot water. The boiler, or water heater, is present in the apartments that are equipped with a central heating system and therefore do not require the boiler to activate the radiators. The water heater can be electric (inexpensive but not very powerful and rather polluting) or gas (more expensive upon activation, but promises lower long-term bills).

It is preferable to choose a boiler in case of independent heating and of a not too large family unit (HERE you can find some advice on how to choose the boiler correctly). If, on the other hand, the family is very large, one can contemplate the idea of installing a boiler and a boiler at the same time (in this case, it would be advisable to install a boiler with an integrated boiler).

However, it is important to pay attention to the location of the boiler: it is better to place it near the bathroom or kitchen taps, so that the water travels less "way" to come out hot in our hands - thus reducing energy waste. A valid solution would be to use the boiler to heat the domestic water to the bathrooms, and to install a small boiler in the kitchen, reserving its use only for washing dishes or preparing food.
