It's 4400 years old, but it doesn't look like it. It is a "new" tomb discovered by a team of Egyptian archaeologists digging at the site of Saqqara, where they found hieroglyphs, paintings and sculptures dating back to the fifth dynasty of the Old Kingdom. And all in excellent condition. This was announced by the Minister of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Khaled el-Enany during a press conference.
The find is literally incredible, because it is very ancient, unexpected and decidedly little ruined despite its venerable age. In fact, the minister pointed out that the drawings on the walls of the tomb were exceptionally well preserved.
From the first reports on the matter, we learn that the site also contains a total of 45 statues carved in the rock and that everything points to a high official and his family. The minister, in particular, explained that the tomb would belong to the priest Wahtye, dating back to a period between 2500 and 2300 BC, therefore about 4400 years ago, a century more, a century less.
Most of the buildings show human beings or gods, some life size and others that appear to be about 1 meter long. THE hieroglyphsinstead, they often mention Wahtye's mother "Merit Meen", a name that means "the lover of the god Min", the god of fertility in ancient times, but also the priest's wife, "Nin Winit Ptah", a name which means "the great god Ptah", a deity associated with Memphis, an ancient Egyptian capital near Saqqara itself.
Egypt, as we know, is not new to these discoveries. Only at the end of November was the object of the discovery of 8 beautiful mummies, three of which in excellent condition, but also, shortly before, of cats and scarabs, together with wooden sculptures of various animals.
A real treasure, probably yet to be fully discovered.
