The multinational Nestlé plans to extract 4 million liters of water to be bottled and sold taking it from the protected headwaters of the Santa Fe River in Ginnie Springs, Florida.

The multinational plans to quadruple the amount of water withdrawn from the source so far: according to environmental associations, this it would significantly reduce the water present in the already fragile riverand would put the entire ecosystem at risk, as well as the survival of the watercourse.

The river is in fact being recovered and would not be able to cope with such a high levy. The reduction of water would then have devastating repercussions between plant and animal species who live in this natural reserve of extraordinary beauty.
For example, they are housed in the reserve 15 different species of turtles, which could be threatened if Nestlé's project is approved.

La multinational denied wanting to cause negative impacts on nature:

“Our business depends on the quality and sustainability of the water we are collecting
It would make no sense to invest millions of dollars in operations that would deplete the natural resources on which our business is based, ”said Adam Gaber, a spokesperson for Nestlé in the aforementioned support.

The concern that a so fragile and delicate ecosystem negatively affected by such a consistent withdrawal of water remains and one wonders if it is worth it jeopardize a nature reserve to market water in plastic bottles, source of pollution.

To try to stop the Nestlé project, the associations have launched an online petition that has already collected about 6000 signatures at the moment.
