A really creative idea comes from London, where the Hubbub organization launched the #neatstreet campaign to encourage people to keep the streets clean that they travel every day.
According to a survey conducted by Hubbub, 86% of people believe that littering on the street is a disgusting practice, but only 15% of them would be willing to say it in the face of those who do it. What to do, then, to encourage everyone to have a greater civic sense? The organization and its partners have tried to solve the problem with a truly original and unconventional awareness campaign.
The experiment started last May and involved Villiers Street, a very busy street in the heart of London, which is crossed every day by workers, students, tourists and citizens, and which for this reason is also quite dirty. In addition to a series of posters that aim to explain that the street is good for everyone, here are some of the solutions devised by Hubbub to encourage people to improve their behavior.
There are, for example, the musical container for the collection of cigarette butts, and the "talking" basket, which "welcomes" with sounds and grunts every waste that is thrown into it.
Then there are ingenious systems that transform the game into a game and, in some cases, even into a competition collection of butts and chewing gum. You can use a cigarette butt to express your opinion in a survey, or contribute your own chewing gum to complete an image or writing.
And finally, there are some fun ones flash mob in honor of the most virtuous citizens, complete with applause, medals and celebrations.
And who knows if an innovative approach, based on creativity, on "good example" and on the use of the so-called "positive reinforcement", will not prove more effective than thousands of words.
