Fantastic mushrooms. In addition to being good for your health, mushrooms can become a sustainable building material. How? This was revealed by the New York company Ecovative, which has made headlines for providing the hi-tech giant Dell with an alternative and compostable packaging of bamboo and mushrooms, he is making the first house in the world made of mushrooms.

Is called Mushroom Tiny House and it is a small construction, with a minimal footprint. But, if it lacks in size, the micro house compensates with the use of ecological materials. Unlike traditional dwellings, which are often lined with petroleum-based foam insulation, its wooden walls are covered with mycelium, which is the vegetative system of mushrooms formed by an intertwining of filaments. A sort of "root", so to speak. Once grown, this insulation will continue to dry out over the course of a month, forming an airtight seal and excellent thermal protection. A bit like we had already seen for the house with the corn walls.

According to Ecovative it will also be convenient and fire resistant. In addition to naturally growing insulation, the house will also have panels built with mushrooms. "Inside, it embodies our vision of building, to offer architects, builders and consumers the ultimate solution for an eco-friendly, energy-efficient construction at a price that is much less expensive for our health, the 'environment and our wallet ", he said Ecovative co-founder Eben Bayer.

The team is not just building a small "green" house, but literally making it grow. Insulation with fungi in the walls is alive and growing. And it is destined to become one of the most innovative materials for the bio-architecture of the future, as Mushroom Tiny House will demonstrate as soon as it is completed.

Although the backbone has been pulled up, there is still a lot to do and frantically working to finish the final details by mid-June when the mushroom house will be transported from Green Island, New York, Vermont, for the 2013 Tiny House Fair.
