Install a Bat Box
A Bat Box is a bat house, usually made of wood, which can be hung on one of the external walls of your home, under a gutter, or on your balcony. It is a particularly suitable refuge for bats, nocturnal animals that naturally feed on insects, including mosquitoes, and which will help keep them away from the interior spaces of your home. In some cases, the Municipalities decide to install the Bat Boxes on its own territory, free of charge, with positive effects for all citizens.
Avoid water stagnation
Mosquitoes can lay their eggs as early as spring. As temperatures rise, especially in the city, the completion time for larval cycle will be destined to shrink. It is therefore advisable to start from the first beautiful spring days to eliminate any watery stagnation that may be present in saucers, courtyards, green areas, balconies, terraces, puddles and muddy areas. Wet areas with even minimal watery stagnations are preferred for egg laying and favor the development of the larvae.
Help the neighbors
Your efforts will be in vain if your closest neighbors do not undertake to implement the same precautions. In their gardens or in their paths, in the immediate vicinity of your home, there may be pools of water or water stagnations of lesser entity, but in each case to be kept under observation. Offer to help them and try to be the first to set a good example yourself.
Copper wire
A possible remedy to prevent the development of mosquito larvae, with particular reference to the tiger mosquito, is to place fragments of copper wire in those containers of water which for any possible reason cannot be emptied. Fragments of copper wire prevent the larvae of some mosquito species from developing. Copper wires must be replaced periodically, so that they do not lose their effectiveness
Mosquito nets
If you are aware that your area of residence is particularly affected by the presence of mosquitoes during the summer season, take advantage of the spring to start installing mosquito nets to the windows, which can protect you over the next few months. In addition to mosquito nets applicable to doors and windows, there are also mosquito nets to repair your bed, using a canopy, and outdoor mosquito nets, suitable if you want to place a gazebo in the garden, to shelter its open sides, or protect the space occupied by a veranda facing the garden.
