    Monkey Orchid, the monkey orchid: a particular species of orchid whose corolla, combined with the pistils and the coloring of the petals, seems to give shape to the face of a small monkey.

It's about a particular species of orchid whose corolla, combined with the pistils and the particular coloring of the petals, seems to give shape to what appears very similar to the funny face of a small monkey. It is a flower that is considered very rare, so much so that very few individuals would have been lucky enough to be able to admire it live. In any case, starting from simple images, the monkey orchid can only arouse curiosity and sympathy.





    It sees as its natural habitat those forests ofEcuador and Perù which are located in mountainous areas, at an altitude included between 1000 and 2000 meters. Thanks to some lucky ones who were able to take the opportunity to admire and photograph this beautiful and extraordinary flower, we have the opportunity to observe a series of images that portray it, through which it is possible to see the typical "face" of this peculiar orchid.

    The same scientific name of this flower is particular: Simian dracula. In fact, it recalls two similarities, the one already mentioned with the face of a small monkey and the one that, for one particular, would compare it to the most famous count of Transylvania. Its characteristics sepals in fact, i Dracula's sharp teeth. The scientific name was selected in 1978 by the botanist Luer. The orchid is part of a family comprising over 120 species, mostly native to Ecuador.

    Located in the mountains, the monkey orchid it can bloom at any time of the year, without any preference based on the succession of the seasons. Her perfume would recall the fragrance emitted by a ripe orange. The monkey orchid can eventually be cultivated, provided that the careful care typical for other flowers of its own species is reserved. It should be kept in cool, shady places for it to flower.

    If, looking at the images, you do not immediately notice a certain similarity between the orchid and the face of a monkey, try move away from the screen a little. From a certain distance this similarity is in fact even more evident.
