Eat meat without killing any animals? In the future, perhaps we will be able to do this. Scientist Uma Valeti conducted an experiment for produce meat in the laboratory in a period of time ranging from 9 to 21 days.

This technique could stop large-scale killing of animals for the food production of meat. Meat in the laboratory is produced from animal stem cells with the aim of making it a more sustainable food both from the point of view of animal protection and for our health.

Valeti is a cardiologist and the founder of Memphis Meats, a company that is working on obtaining perfectly edible meat in the laboratory without harming animals. In his opinion this type of meat it presents no health risks linked to bacterial contamination or the presence of saturated fats in large quantities. Furthermore, in this way the negative consequences for the environment linked to intensive farming are avoided.

“We are producing meat that is safer, healthier and more sustainable,” Valeti explained. For produce meat without killing animals cells are taken that are able to renew themselves. These cells are supplied with oxygen and nourishment, such as sugars and mineral salts. The cells gradually develop and the laboratory meat is ready in a few days.

Production is focusing on beef, chicken and pork, given that they are the most consumed types and with the greatest impact on the environment and health. The goal is for lab-grown meat to arrive in restaurants within 3 years and in supermarkets within the next 5 years, in 2021, but sooner if possible.

The first point of production is located in the United States but others could be born, for example in India, the country of origin of Valeti, who explained that the meat produced in the laboratory is identical to that coming from the farms from a molecular point of view. and cell phone. In his opinion, this product manages to make a clean break with the fact of having to kill an animal to eat meat.

In short, apparently in the future, meat production will no longer be linked to intensive farmingi, killing and slaughtering of animals. Memphis Meats is a project born in collaboration with Nicholas Genovese, biologist expert in stem cells, and Will Clem, biomedical engineer.

The meat produced in the laboratory saves the animals and makes intensive farming uselessthe. It allows to save water and land to cultivate and to reduce pollution, while providing a food very similar to the meat we know for those who do not want to stop eating it.

What do you think? Could producing meat in the laboratory be the solution to save animals and reduce the number and environmental impact of intensive farming?
