Mc Donald's winks at vegetarians. Will he be able to seduce them?

Mc Donald's winks at vegetarians. Will he be able to seduce them?

Mc Donald's tries again to wink at vegetarians. He had already done so by opening an entirely veg place in india and launching the veggie burger a few years ago (which didn't go very well). He now he returns to the attack to conquer one of the fastest growing slices of the market, the vegetarians. The bait? Two new vegetarian products for its Canadian outlets.

Mc Donald's tries again to wink at vegetarians. He had already done so by opening a entirely veg place in india and launching theVegetarian hamburger (which hadn't gone very well). Now back on the attack to conquer one of the fastest growing market shares, vegetarians. The bait? Two new vegetarian products for its Canadian outlets.

This is the Santa Fe Veggie and Mediterranean Veggie, two wraps full of legumes, vegetables and sauces, without meat and fish. For the former, the ingredients list includes: corn, black beans, cheddar, tomatoes, red onions, lettuce, tortilla chips, chilli and lime sauce. The second, on the other hand, features hummus, feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, lettuce, crunchy onions and a creamy Mediterranean sauce.

But if you believe this is a healthy alternative, preferable to a Big Mac, the nutritional information will make you think again. Santa Fe Veggiem, for example, contains 490 calories, 24 grams of fat and 980 milligrams of sodium. The Big Mac carries 540 calories, 29 grams of fat and 1.020 milligrams of sodium. In short, McDonald's is still a long way from choosing truly healthy (and cruelty-free) products.

Why, then, introduce the two alternatives? Certainly not for the sake of health, the environment or animals. It is simply the law of supply and demand. Analysts at the chain found that even people who don't recognize themselves as vegetarians would like vegetarian options. What do you think of it? Would you ever be charmed by one of their piadina, even if without meat? Or would you remember all the other good reasons not to eat at McDonald's?
