Death in the worst way, due to the smashed carapace or the lack of water. Vandals in the municipal villa Mafalda di Savoia in Capaci killed some turtles who lived in the fountain and devastated various green areas.

Not even the poor turtles came out unscathed from a senseless act perpetrated a few days ago in the municipal villa. After destroying the children's play area, various equipment and littering all over the place, the vandals also killed several Trachemys scripta.

Some have been found with the smashed carapace, others died from lack of water, for a total of four. Only seven managed to escape, surviving only thanks to the intervention of the volunteers of the Enpa Section of Carini (Palermo) and of the Legambiente Naturally Sicily Club.

Here is one of the turtles found dead:

Here is what Enpa wrote on Facebook:

“We deemed it appropriate, in agreement with the Mayor of Naples, to take the turtles that lived in the fountain, unfortunately now in degradation because they are victims, like the rest of the Villa, of vandalism and uncivilized acts. We are saddened to note that some turtles were unfortunately found literally with their shells smashed.
The remaining lives are currently in our custody and will remain there when the municipality will restore and secure the Villa Comunale and the fountain ".

The turtles, therefore, will return to the villa only when there are the necessary conditions. In a press release, the Enpa invited communities and institutions to "network" around these common spaces.

“Il respect for nature, animals and man is of fundamental importance for the growth of a community that wants to be defined as civil ".
