There are really numerous mobile homes present in the world, born from the refurbishment of buses, vans and truck. One of the more recent examples is Maine Bus.
Thus a means of transport that now seemed destined for scrapping, was transformed into an elegant guest house. The credit goes to the architect Will Wilkenman of the studio Willkenman Architecture, which is engaging in the field of restructuring the means of transport of the past, combining architecture and design.
Maine Bus originated from a small bus Chevy Viking of 1959. Now it's a real one cottage on wheels in miniature. The interior spaces are comfortable and the exterior has been repainted with an elegant color mint green. Maine Bus isn't just habitable. Thanks to the renovations, it can now get back on the roads.
The micro case on wheels are dedicated to all those who choose the Minimalism as a lifestyle and who do not want to give up pleasure of travel. Maine Bus can also simply be used as one guest room, with all the comforts. All parts of the bus have been rebuilt following the original structure, in order to maintain the vintage look. In some cases the pieces were rebuilt from scratch, other times the architect was able to retrieve suitable used parts on the Web.
To ensure maximum originality. Wilkenman chose vintage colors e retro prints to decorate both the exterior and interior of Maine Bus. The aesthetic choices recall the fifties and sixties. The architect defined his own creation e hippie. Even the floors, the colors chosen for the beds and mattresses and the lamps have been researched to recall the past.
Maine Bus is a house on wheels that will certainly appeal to nostalgics and could be the first step in a long series of makeover to save from landfills buses, vans and means of transport of the past suitable for being transformed into homes.
