A new study shows that magnesium optimizes vitamin D status.

A new study affirms the importance of magnesium in maximizing the benefits of vitamin D

Magnesium keeps the nervous system, muscles and bones healthy and prevents many diseases such as tumors, neurovegetative disorders or infections, vitamin D. Both, in short, are essential for our well-being and their deficiency could cause us to arise some ailments. But if it is true, how is it true that vitamins often need other substances to be truly assimilated, what is the relationship between magnesium and vitamin D?

This is highlighted by a study by Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, in the United States, which shows that having the right levels of magnesium plays an important role in the assimilation of vitamin D. The study was the first direct evidence of magnesium's role in regulating vitamin D.

According to scholars, in practice, il magnesium optimize the state of vitamin D, increasing it in people with insufficient levels and lowering it in people with high levels: magnesium would have a regulating effect on vitamin D levels and, in general, can prevent conditions related to that particular vitamin, which in turn manages the levels of other minerals such as calcium and phosphorus.

In addition, in healthy conditions, if you want to increase the levels of vitamin D in the diet, it may be useful to take it with a little magnesium.

To reach these conclusions, the researchers conducted a randomized clinical study on 250 subjects considered at risk of colorectal cancer.

Dr Qi Dai, lead author of the latest study and professor of medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, explained why: "Our research has shown that a magnesium deficiency disrupts the synthesis and metabolism of vitamin D" .

"Vitamin D deficiency has been recognized as a potential large-scale health problem in the United States," says study co-author Martha Shrubsole. Many doctors recommend vitamin D supplements to their patients to raise their levels of the vitamin in relation to blood values. In addition to vitamin D, however, magnesium deficiency is a widely underestimated problem: up to 80% of people do not consume enough magnesium in a day to meet their recommended dietary intake. "

What emerges clear is the importance of magnesium: being an essential mineral for many cellular functions, it protects heart health, regulates blood pressure and facilitates the activities of vitamin D. From here, therefore, it is certain that magnesium also plays a crucial role in bone health, as its correct intake can help you reach the desired level of vitamin D faster.

Finally, the authors of the study specify the need for further research to determine the molecular mechanism underlying the effect of magnesium on the synthesis of vitamin D. Meanwhile, if necessary, we take a little more magnesium, here you will find the foods they contain magnesium, and stock up on vitamin D while walking in the sun!
