No more wild animals in the Madrid circus starting April 2020, but let's hope this is the right time. We talked about it in 2017, when the government of Manuela Carmena, elected with Podemos, had decided to ban circus shows "with the exhibition of wild animals".

No more wild animals in the Madrid circus starting April 2020, but let's hope this is the right time. We talked about it in 2017, when the government of Manuela Carmena, elected with Podemos, had decided to ban circus shows "with the exhibition of wild animals".

The measure had been voted by a large majority by the city council in the name of "defending the historical rights of animals". The junta of the Spanish capital had then received a mandate to soon adopt a binding ordinance amending the 2001 legislation, in order to "defend the animals from the many hours of punishment", from "stress" and "suffering" during training. and the performances.

In reality, it took another two years to unblock the situation after the City Council moratorium. But now there is the go-ahead for the Plenary held in March 2019 with the support of the votes of Madrid, PSOE and CS and the opposite one from PP. So from April officially the Spanish city is expected to say goodbye to wild animals in the circus.

Currently, nine autonomous communities and nearly 200 Spanish municipalities have ordinances banning wild animals in circus performances. The same happens in cities like Barcelona and Valencia.
The first community to veto circuses with animals in their entirety or with wild species was Catalunya in 2015, followed by the Balearic Islands, La Rioja, Galicia, Murcia, Valencian Community, Aragon, Extremadura and Asturias.

The show lasts less than two hours, the whole life imprisonment. See what the circus doesn't want to show.

Many people are finally becoming aware of the fact that behind the circus there are stories of exploitation and mistreatment.
Many times these animals are illegally imported, kept in cages mounted on concrete and subjected to rigorous training. Bears, elephants, tigers and all the others become automatons, hit until they learn whiplash to jump into the fire.
