To protect himself from the flames, he hid in a barbecue oven in a forest in the area of Mati, the seaside town devastated by fires in Greece on 23 June.

The dog was so scared that it took two and a half hours to get him out. He was crouched at the bottom, all covered in ash and dust, together with another little dog who was also safe. At the moment it is not known who the owner of the two dogs is.

The video was posted on Facebook by Artemis Kyriakopoulou the woman who found the dog.

“He was injured, with burns, and he was hungry, we took him to a vet and now he's better,” the woman wrote in the post.

The little dog renamed Loukoumakis has been cured and is slowly recovering. Meanwhile, investigations continue to ascertain the nature of the fires.
