A new confirmation of all this came from a study published in Jama Internal Medicine that noted how a consumption of "good" fats reduces mortality for each type of cause in an inclusive percentage between 11% and 19%.

    Researchers from Harvard Chan School and Brigham and Women's Hospital came to this conclusion after having monitored for 32 years a sample of over 126 thousand people. All participants underwent questionnaires on their health, diet and lifestyle (replicated every 2-4 years). In this way, the experts were able to assess the risk of death related to the eating habits of the analyzed sample with particular attention to the different types of fats present in their diet. This is the largest study ever done on the relationship between different types of fats and human health.

    The results were so clear that In conclusion, the researchers recommend a preference for foods rich in unsaturated fats (both monounsaturated and polyunsaturated) such as extra virgin olive oil, dried fruit, seeds (sunflower, flax, etc.) and fish, especially salmon. This confirms what previous research had already shown which focused for example on the benefits of a diet rich in omega 3 (contained not only in fish but also in dried fruit and some oil seeds) on longevity.

    Experts then advise to limit as much as possible saturated fats such as those found in some foods of animal origin (red meat, lard, butter, etc.) but also the trans fats found in many packaged foods (margarine, fries, nuts, snacks, fast food foods, etc.). In fact, for every 2% increase in the consumption of these fats, there is a 16% greater risk of death.
