Locanda dei girasoli in Rome, finally comes the contribution from the Lazio Region to save the restaurant run by Down boys.Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous
We had already talked about the splendid Locanda dei Girasoli, a unique example of social inclusion. The inn, which is based in Rome in via dei Sulpici 117 / h, in Quadraro, is in fact managed by boys and girls with Down syndrome, an example of employment and integration, one of the few opportunities for job growth for these young people.
The restaurant, several times over the years, has risked closure due to the economic crisis that has put it to the test. First in 2012 when fortunately he managed to resist, then in recent 2019, when an online petition was launched addressed to the Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi, signed by many people. And now, finally, the institutions respond, the contribution of the Lazio Region.
48 thousand and 800 euros that the Region, through Arsial, the regional agency for the development and innovation of agriculture in Lazio, has decided to donate thanks to an agreement that reconciles employment and good food with regional food excellence. In exchange, the restaurant will have to use 80% of oils from Lazio and 40% of products grown or reared in the region. And also the wines will be, for 60%, of the local tradition.
Enzo Rimicci, president of the Locanda, said, according to the Nicola Zingaretti website, that in the last 20 years the restaurant's dream has come true but that, at a certain point, it was necessary to rely on others, also because several times it risked closing. And finally, after a long wait we are here, the economic request has been accepted, it remains to be seen whether the inn will also be able to move to a more central area, a question which has been awaiting an answer for over a year.
Nicola Zingaretti defined the inn "a unique example in terms of social inclusion, which offers Rome a future of autonomy and dignity in the world of work to many boys and girls with Down syndrome".
We hope that with this contribution their business will finally be able to recover and that, in the meantime, the institutions will be able to transfer it to a more suitable location.
