The news a few days ago that announced the imminent closure of the Locanda dei Girasoli, the pizza restaurant in the Quadraro district in Rome, had struck everyone's heart and symbol of social inclusion. Here, in fact, many boys and girls with Down syndrome have found redemption, but the place may not withstand the impact of a series of negative events, not least the pandemic. Today, however, something could change again.
Nobody liked the risk of closure and so there were immediate proofs of solidarity and proposals to avert the definitive bankruptcy. On the same last Friday, an important opening opened, so much so that the Lazio Region is committed to ensuring that new important news come out of a meeting scheduled for today, as confirmed by the press release of the regional councilor Marta Bonafoni.

The commitment of the Lazio Region to save the Locanda dei Girasoli, convened for Monday 17 January with the aim of giving continuity to an experience of social and work inclusion for boys and girls with Down syndrome is a very positive sign. has brought to our territory in these 22 years, writes Bonafoni.
Averting its closure and allowing the workers of the cooperative to continue to bring this special project born in via dei Sulpici al Quadraro to life means, in fact, not letting this crisis bring yet another activity to its knees that had built a community with difficulty cooperating, enriching the life of our city.

In April 2021, after the blackout of the pandemic, other problems had arisen, a series of urgent repairs that the cooperative could not afford but which were then somehow solved given that the pizzeria restaurant run by Down girls and boys continued to operate so far.
