Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

"The father's cells, manipulated and infused into the baby, have taken root perfectly". Today, finally, little Alex will be released from the hospital, the little boy of just over a year and a half suffering from a rare disease

Alessandro Maria Montresor is well and will be discharged today from the Bambino Gesù hospital in Rome. This is the news that many were waiting for, after the child had undergone a delicate stem cell transplant from parents last month.

Alex moved everyone last year, when an immense race of solidarity started for him, trusting in the goodness of those who would be able to donate the bone marrow that would be needed. And today, the little one will be out of the hospital.

The baby was born from haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, also known as HLH, a genetic disease that affects only 0,002% of newborns. It is a pathology that gives no escape, unless a bone marrow transplant is carried out thanks to a compatible donor.

After moving from London's Great Ormond Street to Rome in late November, Alex underwent all the necessary screenings to identify the hematopoietic stem cell donor between the two parents and the father was identified.

As the hospital writes in a note, “the father's cells, manipulated and infused into the 20-month-old baby, took root perfectly 1 month after the transplant, adequately repopulating the patient's hematopoietic and immune system. During the 4 weeks following the transplant, no complications were recorded, neither on the infectious level nor on the level of rejection, the main problem for situations of this type. In the light of these evidences, the transplant process can be said to be positively concluded. Administration of the life-saving drug (emapalumab), which controlled the disease by regulating immune system reactions, was suspended last week. The child, in good and stable health conditions, will leave the hospital in the next few hours ".

    Good life little Alex!
