It will be built in Barcelona, and will become operational in 2020, the largest European center for childhood cancer, born thanks to the support of the Leo Messi Foundation.

Lionel Messi is one of the greatest players in the history of football but also stands out for his gestures of solidarity and closeness towards those who suffer, especially children. Through the foundation that bears his name, the Argentine champion it raised over 30 million euros and will be primarily responsible for building the largest pediatric cancer care center in Europe.

The new structure, called SJD Pediatric Cancer, will arise in Barcelona within the Sant Joan de Déu hospital and will be an excellence in the sector, a specialized center that will work on research to defeat the disease but which obviously will also deal with the treatment of young patients.

Thanks to the fact that Messi, in addition to donating personally and raising funds through the foundation, "put his face" to promote the project's advertising campaign, the birth of the center is now known and awaited all over the world.

The cost to develop the new center in the best possible way is obviously very high and the collaboration of everyone was sought, not only companies and institutions but also private citizens. In this regard, a fundraising campaign was launched with the hashtag #paralvalientes (for the brave) which brilliantly exceeded one million euros.

The project also aims to raise awareness in society about cancer, a very widespread disease that unfortunately also affects children, forced to fight every day like real warriors with the hope of healing.

The hospital's health management wanted to thank Messi with a moving video in which a human pyramid is created that symbolizes the achievement of the goal, precisely the construction of the center, obtained thanks to the collaboration of all and despite the difficulties.

The final gesture of the children putting two fingers under the eye symbolizes the fight against cancer that we really hope this new center will be able to defeat.
