She lives in a poor neighborhood in San Carlos, Brazil, along with other animals and her destitute human family. Lilica was abandoned in a landfill when she was just a puppy. Neile Vaina Antonio, her keeper welcomed her and took care of her. Lilica quickly became friend of all the other animals in the landfill, which offer each other warmth, companionship and solidarity. What unites them, in addition to love, is poverty.
Three years ago, Lilica became pregnant and gave birth to eight puppies. She knew she had to find a way to feed them and at the landfill there wasn't enough food for everyone. So she started going out in the evening, looking for scraps. During one of her nocturnal journeys, he was lucky enough to meet the animal rights volunteer Lucia, a teacher who began to feed her.
“He walked and sniffed the garbage cans and got my attention. I thought she was homeless because she was looking for food. So I offered her some. One day, she stopped eating, she grabbed the envelope and ran away, carrying it with him. The food fell along the way because the bag was open. The next day, when she finished eating, I tied the envelope. And she took it. From that day forward, that's how we do it. I tie the envelope and she carries it, ”explains Lucia.
One day the teacher decides to follow Lilica, to see where she runs away every night. That's how she finds out why take away the food bag. Since then Lucia has never missed an appointment with Lilica. Every evening, at 21:00 and she waits for her with the bag of food. Lilica arrives, eats a little and then runs off to feed her family.
