Light was at the Salone del Mobile 2010: Solatube and LumiSheet (Video-interview)

The planet is not saved by design alone. We would not like to be snobbish but at this Salone we have found a couple of solutions that are not design objects, but intelligent and ecological solutions for lighting.

The planet is not saved by design alone. We don't want to be snobbish but at this Salone del Mobile 2010 we have found a couple of products that are not design objects, but intelligent and ecological solutions for lighting.

Solartube: the conductive tubes of SOLAR LIGHT

Light was at the Salone del Mobile 2010: Solatube and LumiSheet (Video-interview)

A first interesting stand we came across was that of Solatube®: Its plasticky shell will make more than an industrial design purist horrify, but its function is truly amazing. The basic concept is of capturing sunlight not so much to produce electricity, but to illuminate! For that, you say, there are windows, but think about how many rooms in the house, a closet, a hallway, cannot take advantage of sunlight and are instead illuminated with electricity. Solatube yes square on the roof, where thanks to its technology it is able to capture the light even when the sun is low on the horizon; then through a reflective tube system, the light is channeled until it reaches the room to be illuminated: sunlight, without windows! For a live demonstration, watch the video!

    LumiSheet: the LED panels

The second "discovery" we can consider as a basis for the work of designers or architects who want to experiment with alternative lighting solutions, technologically advanced and respectful for the environment. We talk to you about LumiSheet® by Evo-line, the first unified backlight, which is a sheet of LED to be used at will, as we show you in the video. Lumisheet has a very long life - it lights up 12h a day for 11 years - it consumes very little energy as it is powered by only 12 volts and does not contain mercury or other heavy metals that are harmful to the environment.
