Many supermarket and discount chains have their own line of branded products, traditional or organic. These include Coop, Esselunga, Conad but also Todis, Eurospin and Lidl. But where is it better to buy branded products?

The so-called "distributor brand”, Ie those products sold by supermarkets and discounters with their own brand, is gaining a lot of ground compared to the big brands.

Undoubtedly, compared to the past, consumers are more attentive and are less "duped" by the well-known brand, paying attention not only to quality but also to savings. With regard to the latter aspect, it should be emphasized that the supermarket brand guarantees an average price 15% lower than the products of the major brands (and the savings are even higher if you shop at the discount store).

In its latest issue, Il Salvagente has drawn up a ranking of the branded products of large retailers, born after two years of analysis and hundreds of tests carried out on many references of following supermarkets:

    • Carrefour
    • Coop
    • Conad
    • Elite
    • Esselunga

    E discount:

    • Eurospin
    • Lidl
    • Md
    • Todis

A separate ranking concerns the branded organic products:

    • I love being organic Eurospin
    • Carrefour Bio
    • Esselunga Bio
    • Nature Yes
    • Viviverde Coop

To draw up the rankings, i laboratory tests carried out by the same journal between January 2020 and February 2022 on 38 foods (for a total of 226 references on which hundreds of analyzes have been conducted).

What emerged? While all the supermarket branded products, and even more organic ones, at least snatch a sufficiency (even those in the last position), it is not the same for the discount products.

Lidl turned out to be the worst discounter where to buy branded products. From the life buoy test he gets a 5,9. According to the legend, it is therefore classified as "mediocre".

Even evaluating the 3 rankings overall (supermarkets, organic and discount), Lidl is the brand with the lowest score.

    The magazine specifies that:

the numbers and the judgments we have reported represent an average of those taken into consideration, obviously in relation to the samples analyzed.
