A film about Volkswagen scandal, with an exceptional protagonist: Leonardo DiCaprio. The actor combines commitment to the environment and cinema.
Together with Jennifer Davisson, through the Appian Way, the two will produce a film on the Volkswagen affair and on the tests to circumvent the controls on car emissions.
Paramount has bought the film rights to Jack Ewing's book, which will disclose all the details of the scandal in which the German company installed illegal software in diesel cars to alter emissions tests.
The book, which the New York Times reporter is working on, will reveal the background to one of the biggest scams in corporate history.
After Runner Runner, The Wolf of Wall Street and House of Vengeance, DiCaprio's Appian Way production company gets its hands on a story that's as challenging as it is true.
The one in which a car manufacturer considered unsuspected and unassailable is caught red-handed. A trick that allowed diesel-powered cars to be promoted during emission control tests, but which once on the road produced up to 40 times more emissions than permitted by law.
DiCaprio is ready to tell this story. After collecting 40 million through an auction e 15 million donated by his Foundation to reduce the impact of man on the planet, the actor had recently announced the disinvestment of its foundation from fossil sources.
And telling the story of those who played dirty, to the detriment of the environment and public health, is equally important.
