A new study carried out by the UFC Universidade Federale do Ceará in collaboration with the federal universities of Paraíba and Piauí has found in a species of laurel that grows in the Amazon, the Aniba riparia, of the properties hitherto unknown.
The leaves of this plant would have, according to the researchers, a antidepressant effect natural due to an organic substance present inside them known as riparina III which from the tests carried out would be confirmed to be a real ally in fighting depression, anxiety and stress in people.
The riparina III is a alkaloid that is an organic nitrogenous substance present in nature in the seeds, leaves and bark of numerous plants. This alkaloid has long been studied by the Department of Neuropharmacology of the UFC due to its high anxiolytic and antidepressant capacities.
The laurel, besides being a very popular aromatic herb, is known for being a medicinal plant - belonging to the Lauraceae family - with a thousand benefits; a thousand plus one since the discovery of this alkaloid in the Amazon species could change the way around the world to treat mood disorders and help those who want to treat anxiety and depression in the most natural way possible.
