In Calabria a lager kennel was seized: 444 abused dogs with serious pathologies did not receive treatment and lived in the dirt

A horror scenario, the one discovered by the carabinieri of the Siderno Station Command coordinated by the Locri Public Prosecutor's Office in a kennel in Sant'Ilario dello Jonio in Calabria, now subject to seizure.
444 dogs for 187 dirty boxes and without the least sanitary conditions. During the checks, the carabinieri found animals not registered in the canine registry and many not even registered in the lists of the same kennel. Only 146 out of 444 were equipped with a regular microchip. But what triggered the seizure was also the fact that the carcasses of dead animals were kept inside plastic containers placed in a non-functioning cold store and the fact that several dogs had skin diseases, wasting, purulent sores. and major bite wounds, caused during fights between dogs housed in the same boxes without any evaluation criteria from a behavioral point of view.
The health picture that emerged during the checks was defined as "disheartening" by the veterinarians themselves, who then found no documentation relating to vaccinations for distemper and rabies or any health findings on the animals held in this real concentration camp.
Nine thousand square meters, which lacked any elementary standard of animal welfare. With the seizure of the structure there was also the referral of an entrepreneur and a manager of the Reggio Calabria ASP. The checks were triggered after the complaint filed by an association for the protection of animal rights in the summer of last year. Having ascertained the truthfulness, the carabinieri with the help of NAS and NIL Reggio Calabria, of the Brancaleone Forestry Carabinieri Station, of the staff of the Veterinary Service of the ASP and of the veterinary task force of the Calabria Region, have dismantled a system in which not only was perpetuated maltreatment of animals, but the investigations revealed criminal irregularities also in the disposal of waste and waste water, with serious damage to the environment.
"In consideration of the conditions in which the structure is found - writes the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri RC in a note - the Court of Locri, agreeing with the requirements of the competent Public Prosecutor's Office, ordered the preventive seizure of the kennel, and in consideration of the particularity of the seized asset indicated the assignment of the same to a judicial administrator in possession of particular requirements, who may make use of the aid of animal rights and zoophile associations, some of which have already become available, in order to guarantee the well-being of the dogs guests of the structure".
To take care of them, therefore, will now be a judicial administrator, but these dogs are adoptable.
