Kenophobia is the fear of empty spaces, which can be both external and internal. The person who suffers from it may feel upset by finding himself, for example, in the middle of a huge prairie, but also inside a totally empty room.

What are the causes of kenophobia? They are not clear but, as with other phobias, it could be due to trauma suffered in childhood or a family history of specific anxiety disorders or phobias.

The symptoms of kenophobia can be different, more or less serious depending on the person who suffers from it. Here are some of the most popular: 

  • Extreme anxiety
  • Fear
  • Panic
  • Shortness of breath or rapid breathing
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Excessive sweating
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Inability to articulate words or phrases
  • Tremors
  • Headache
  • Fear of losing control

Cenophobia: cure

According to reports Psychtimes, it is possible to cure kenophobia through multiple treatments, for example by resorting to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
