Jova Beach Party's recycled water bottles become sports t-shirts thanks to Coop

Two months after the end of Jovanotti's concerts, the bottles delivered by Coop during the events became sports t-shirts.

The Jova Beach Party appointments were one of the most requested and appreciated summer events but also an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of environmental issues and promote a more eco-sustainable lifestyle thanks to the collaboration between Coop and WWF.

On the occasion of the tour, Coop had almost distributed one million 500 ml bottles of water, all made from 100% recyclable plastic and made from 30% recycled plastic. Today, two months after the end of the concerts and on the occasion of the European Week for Waste Reduction (which ended recently), those bottles have become sports t-shirts.

They were therefore given a double chance to live: first they served to quench the thirst of those who participated in the concerts and then, collected immediately after the events by the Erica Cooperative and subjected to special treatment by the Corepla Consortium, they were transformed into splendid and useful t-shirts.

To be precise, the bottles have become a set of training shirts, each consisting of 20 t-shirts. These were then delivered to the main youth sports associations of the various locations that hosted the concerts.

A use of the bottles, therefore, in full circular economy as desired and announced by Coop and not only in relation to the events of the Jova Beach Party.

This is in fact only one of the actions that will allow Coop to achieveset goal: save 6400 tons of plastic per year by 2025 (which is equivalent to what about 60 lorries, a 1km line on the highway, can transport!).

To achieve this ambitious result, we have been working for a while. Since 2009 the weight of the brand's bottles has been reduced by up to 20% and it is expected that by 2023 all bottles will be made using 50% recycled material.

Last year alone, 290 Coop products were involved in a packaging renewal policy taking into account eco-sustainability and this allowed a saving of 837 tons of packaging material and the reuse of 814 tons of recycled plastic. . Want to know in terms of reducing emissions? We are talking about a reduction of 8002 tons of Co2 in the atmosphere!

For its commitment in the environmental field, the company was also recently awarded by Conai with 2 important awards: the first for the reduction of the packaging of buffalo mozzarella fior fiore (it has been lightened and made easier to recycle, moreover the label is now placed directly on the package), the second for the use of washable and reusable blue boxes instead of those in disposable polystyrene in the fish shop.

As part of the same award ceremony, Coop also obtained another 18 mentions for some products a Coop brand whose packaging has shown interesting changes in the perspective of the circular economy, recycling and reduction in the use of materials. Just to give an example, we can mention the container for fruit and vegetable trays made with at least 80% recycled plastic and equipped with a Pet lid.

In short, an excellent job in order to change their packaging in a green key, always keeping in mind the 3 R rule, that is, reduce, reuse and recycle.
