Creative recycling of jar lids: an original DIY storage box

Paula Bisoc on her Youtube channel recycles a plastic lid to make a delicious bathroom brush holder.

For this project we need the following materials:

  • 2 plastic lids
  • Wooden sticks
  • Wooden balls
  • Cotton twine
  • Scissors
  • Cutter
  • Candle
  • Hot glue gun
  • Lighter

Method

  • The first step is to glue the wooden sticks around the lid with hot glue, alternating them with the balls.
  • We then move on to the cotton twine by twisting it (just one turn) around each stick, as seen in the video. Proceed patiently until the entire glove box is lined.
  • Take the second plastic lid, it must be the same as the first, and remove the central part with the help of the cutter, heating the tip on the candle.
  • Line the edge of the lid with cotton twine and place it on top of the glove box to stabilize it.
  • Insert the string into the small hole of a wooden ball that you are going to fix between one stick and the other. Proceed in the same way with the other balls, as explained in the video.
  • You just have to insert the brushes or other objects.

Creative recycling of jar lids: the do-it-yourself coasters

Live with Letizia explains how to make a coaster starting from a simple plastic lid. Just cut off the protruding edge of the lid, get a napkin of any design you like, cut it out and discard the bottom layers.

We sprinkle the lid with glue and place it on top of the napkin so that it sticks well. The other side is coated with glue and left to dry. Then just remove the excess parts of the napkin with scissors and paint the back with white acrylic. Voila, the DIY coaster is ready to use!

And obviously following the same procedure you can make others, creating thematic series.

Creative recycling of glass jar lids: magnets, coasters and trivets

Tati's Things teaches us to creatively recycle glass jar lids to make them magnets, coasters, but also original trivets. Here's how to make them step by step.

In this case you must first color the lids with spray paint and cut out circles of the same diameter from a sheet of cork. The circles should be decorated with colored stripes and enriched with the addition of a catchy phrase. You can also make hand lettering if you get along with lettering. Cut out the different words as shown by Tati's Things in the video and apply them over the cork discs, passing over a coat of protective varnish.

Retrieve the previously sprayed lids, download and print the free image of a fruit (if the base is yellow, for example, opt for a lemon, if it is red for a strawberry, and so on), cut it out and glue it to the lid, passing through over a coat of protective clear varnish.

Insert a cork circle into each cork. Now you can use the lids as coasters or as trivets by placing them next to each other. By inserting a magnet between the lid and the cork disk you can even turn them into magnets.
