Do not drive in case of ... sete! That's right: if you are behind the wheel and are as thirsty as camels, you run the same risk as someone who is drunk. Having a dry throat while driving can basically be as dangerous as driving after drinking too much alcohol.

This singular discovery comes from one study of the English Loughborough University, according to which dehydration causes the attention of motorists to drop a lot like those who are drunk and leads them to make the same number of mistakes. Distraction, drowsiness and lack of alertness: these are the effects of dehydration, which could be fatal for the driver.

THE TEST - The British researchers subjected 12 male drivers to specific tests, who had to use a driving simulator when they were hydrated with 200 milliliters of water every hour, and then repeat the experiment after drinking only 25 milliliters of water so. In the first tests, when they were sufficiently hydrated, the participants made an average of 47 driving errors, while, if thirsty, the number increased to 101 errors each, more or less the same as found in those who get behind the wheel after driving. slept too little or raised the elbow too much.

"We are all careful not to drive if we have been drinking, but we usually don't think about the effects of other things that can affect our driving skills, and one of them is dehydration", explains the study coordinator, Ron Maughan.

In short, there is no doubt that driving under the influence of drinks or drugs increases the risk of accidents, but the results of this analysis highlight a danger never thought of before and suggest that drivers should ensure that they are always adequately hydrated. . Not drinking enough water can reduce brain responsiveness, concentration, and can be responsible for headaches, weakness, dizziness, palpitations and anxiety.

In short, the assumption valid for everyone * is always the same: drink a lot and stay hydratedi is a good starting point to take care of our skin and our health. And to get into the right gear, in every sense.
