A Chinese expedition to the Tibetan plateau led to the installation of the highest ever weather monitoring station. It is located on the top of Mount Qomolangma, better known to all as Mount Everest, at a height of 8,848.86 meters above sea level.

On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, China conquered the summit of Mount Qomolangma or, as we usually call it, Everest. On the highest peak of the entire Asian continent and of the world, a weather station has been installed which can now boast of being also on the highest point of the planet.
The research expedition, as part of the Earth Summit Mission 2022, began on April 28 and included 270 experts, divided into 16 teams.
However, only 13 of these managed to reach the summit of Everest. Despite the physical preparation and equipment, the remaining teams could not withstand the extreme and unpredictable climatic conditions that occur in the mountain range.
The climbing ended on the highest point of the mountain, at 8,848.86 meters above sea level., where an automatic weather station was installed, designed to withstand adverse climatic conditions for 2 years.
From the summit, the weather station will provide data on climate and environmental changes that affect not only the mountains, but also the atmosphere and the earth's surface. Data transmission takes place every 12 minutes via a satellite communication system.
It is the largest research expedition the country has ever launched since 2017. In 2019 China had placed 4 stations with measuring instruments also on Everest, while at the beginning of this year it had installed another 3 on the northern slope of the mountain at 7.028 meters, 7.790 meters and 8.300 meters. However, it had never gone beyond 8.400 meters.
There are now eight Chinese weather stations on Mount Everest in total. Their advanced technology will allow experts to broaden their knowledge of a wide range of natural phenomena such as summer monsoons.
