Installations: in China a wall of old toilets and urinals against water waste

Il Fruscio of a waterfall in the middle of Foshan, a city of over 7 million inhabitants in Guangdong Province, in the south-central part of China. Impossible? Perhaps, but the Chinese artist Shu Yong managed, in his own way, to bring the auditory sensations of the waterfall to the city using water, orinatoti and recycled sinks.

The decidedly original "work of art" is the result of Yong's imagination, who together with his team spent two months arranging the 10.000 toilets, obtaining a ceramic wall 100 meters long and 5 meters high. A mix of toilets unsold and sanitary ware used and to be disposed of donated by both the Chinese and foreign populations.

Put your Toilet and orinatoi they are connected to a tap that continuously washes them by reusing a small amount of water, always the same. The result is a waterfall that has become one of the main attractions of the city.

But this is not just a fun idea for its own sake but the imposing cascade of toilets and sinks was designed to attract the eyes of the whole world to the waste of water.

The installation was the highlight of the 16th edition of the China International Ceramic & Sanitaryware Fair in 2010, but it became a permanent public artwork near Shiwan Park.

All toilets and urinals are connected to a tap so that they can be crossed by water simultaneously.

And to show the waste that a single trickle of water can cause, the installation is periodically flooded thus creating a real waterfall.

The reactions of passers-by and onlookers are varied. They range from disapproval to laughter, but the aim is to remember that even a simple drop of water can create a waterfall.
