Insomnia: 5 days of little sleep is enough to damage the brain

Insomnia: 5 days of little sleep is enough to damage the brain

According to a new study, it only takes 5 days of insomnia for the brain to literally go haywire.

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

Structural damage to the brain and nervous system in pieces: insomnia really plays tricks and is enough only 5 days of lack of sleep because the brain literally goes haywire.

To demonstrate the devastating effects of insomnia is yet another study, this time conducted by Chiara Cirelli of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Michele Bellesi of the Polytechnic University of Marche.

Their research shows that the protective sheath that insulates the nerves, the so-called myelin, goes to thin if only our body is "forced" to 5 days of lack of sleep.

Sleep deprivation, therefore, not only raises a number of problems, including the increased likelihood of developing heart disease, diabetes and cancer, but can also lead to major damage to our brain structure.

In the studies, the researchers analyzed the effects of a reduction in net myelin thickness and hypothesized the reduction in sleep in a man by about two hours per night for 4 and a half days.

With this noticeable reduction in sleep, the researchers observed a transformation in the thickness of myelin, a structure critical to brain health, which has been shown to be much thinner. And the same damage could be had even if the sleep deprivation were less intense but more lasting over time.

"We do not know - explains Cirelli - if the myelin deficiency persists in the long term, but the study, the first of its kind, suggests that there may be structural damage due to sleep loss even in a structure such as myelin, considered by itself. itself very stable ".

In the meantime, what to do? Here are some green remedies to pick up the situation and rest more.
