An adorable baby elephant ends up in a mess, falling into a muddy ditch. It happened in north-east India, along the tracks of the local railway line. Fortunately, the passengers of the train that was passing just then saw him and convinced the driver to stop so they could help him.

The little one was transiting with his elephant family across the tracks in Goalpara when slipped into the railway embankment. Stuck in the muddy ravine, he has failed in every attempt to free himself. Fortunately, the passengers decided to give him a hand.

They got off the convoy and, while waiting for help to arrive, they offered the victim water and a few leaves to feed. Fortunately, even though the elephant was frightened by the fall, he was not injured. A happy fate that does not affect all elephants, unfortunately.

Accidents involving trains and pachyderms in India are frequent. Seven elephants they all died together just last November, overwhelmed by a train that was running at fast speed. The episode pushed the requests to lower the speed limits by rail to protect the wild elephant population, which is estimated to be around 26.000 in India.

The elephant is a sacred animal for Hindus who depict him in the god Ganesh. Yet, according to official data, between 2007 and 2012 77 elephants died in the country's nature reserves due to railway collisions. For this clumsy and lucky elephant, life was able to continue peacefully. Men managed to get him out of the ditch, pushing him out of his mud prison.
