Old phone booths that have been an icon of UK culture for years will soon turn into small personal offices. In this way they will not have to be dismantled and will not be unused.
The Bar Works company, which has created new co-working spaces in New York, is now striving for transform 15 old telephone boxes between London, Leeds and Edinburgh in small offices.
Each office booth will be equipped with a PC monitor, wireless mouse, scanner and printer. You can subscribe to use the service by paying 19,99 pounds per month in order to have access to the office booths at any time during the day and in the evening.
The idea is especially designed for entrepreneurs and freelancers who are always on the move and who need to have a comfortable space available to stop and manage work issues.
With the spread of smartphone now it is increasingly rare for a telephone booth to be used for the purpose for which it was created. Hence the idea of transforming it into a new space, more useful and suitable for modern life.
We still don't know, of course, if the idea will work. The most skeptical are concerned about the lack of privacy and the fact that telephone boxes transformed into mini offices could be easily attacked and ruined by vandals. In any case, we'll see, as the first examples of office booths are expected to go live in the UK within the next two months.
