He lives a stone's throw from Chelyabinsk, Russia, the city where two years ago a meteorite did a lot of damage. But his house is very special. It was built with his own hands by Hamidullah Ilchibaev, using ben 12.000 old bottles of champagne.

It is certainly original, the work of the 52-year-old Russian. Affectionately renamed 'Palazzo Oz', the house is now a popular landmark in the region.

The idea for its realization was not accidental. Hamidullah has always been interested in building objects reusing beer bottles and vodka bottles. His children have always admired his work, and encouraged him to build a house sooner or later. “An impossible feat” the man had told himself several times. But that worm continued to accompany him, to the point of pushing him to build their house using the technique he loved so much.

It was a tragic event that convinced him. When Hamidullah lost his second son, who tragically passed away at the age of 18, he decided to finally build the house in memory of the boy. So he began the search for suitable materials. To build the quirky 99-square-meter house, Hamidullah collected over 12.000 empty champagne bottles over the course of three years. Most of it was donated to him by nearby restaurants while the missing part was bought for one ruble.

"When I started building, I hadn't even imagined that there were so many different types of champagne bottles", he said man, discovering that the bottles not only varied in color, but also in quality. Those collections were of different shapes and sizes, so he used a special glass cutter to cut off the buds and make them all the same size, with precision down to the millimeter.

Between the insulation and the neck of the bottle, he left a finger-thick vacuum, in which he then poured a solution, which once solidified held the bottles firmly in place. But not only. By insulating it perfectly from the outside, he would keep the house warm during the winter months by protecting it from the frigid Russian temperatures.

From the outside, you can see the bottoms of the bottles, which give the walls a uniform green texture. From the inside, however, it looks more or less like a normal house as the bottles are not visible.

To build a house made of bottles does it take long less time compared to a classic house, according to Hamidullah at least five times less. Taking into account the final interior finish, adding the installation of the heating system Hamidullah spent about half a million rubles to make it, just under 8 thousand euros.

Once completed, she gave it to her eldest son as a wedding gift.
